Post Rock

Post-rock is a genre of alternative rock characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but utilizing rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not found in rock tradition. Simply put, it's all beautiful as fuck.

Recently, all I want to listen to is anything like I just described. The mood I've been in for a couple of weeks embraces post rock, and holds onto it very tightly. Notable bands include the IDM of Mouse on Mars, the jazz-jam-fusion-rock of Tortoise, and the outright outlandish antics of Stereolab.

[By the fucking way: Stereolab! It's like happy-go-lucky French electronica (that's not really electronica) jams. Get some.]

The grandaddy of them all still remains Godspeed You Black Emperor!. I would start any hungover morning last summer with a jam by GYBE! or one of their many side projects (Fly Pan Am, A Silver Mt. Zion). Next time you're over at my house, bring a bag of blay and some rolling papers. I'll throw on Side A of Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. It's a fucking trip.

And now, the penis:

Tortoise - Djed

Mouse on Mars - Twift Shoeblade

Stereolab - Les Yper-Sound and Emperor Tomato Ketchup
